Kerry Carpenter couldn’t help but smile as his favorite all-time baseball player gave him a major compliment.

The Detroit Tigers right fielder was crucial to their 3-2 victory in extra innings over the Seattle Mariners in Game 1 of the ALDS with a two-run homer in the fifth inning that got scoring started for the Tigers.

After the victory, Carpenter joined the MLB on Fox studio team for an interview on the FS1 broadcast when Hall of Famer David Ortiz offered his congratulations saying “That’s how we do it.”

Carpenter, 28, let it slip that Ortiz also known as “Big Papi” was his idol growing up as a young baseball fan down in Eustis, Florida.

“Hey, coming from my favorite player of all time growing up, that’s pretty special,” Carpenter replied.
