There are five contested races in four of the city’s wards. Two city councilors represent each of the five wards and comprise a governing body of 10.

The mayor leads council meetings, serves the entire city and is chosen by the highest number of voters across all five wards.

Rick Kraft, moderator of the Leadership Roswell Alumni Association’s Candidate Forum, said to the audience this past week that “each of you live in one of the five wards” and advised those who weren’t sure to check which ward was theirs by visiting the website nmvote.com or contacting the Chaves County Bureau of Elections.
