Spencer’s doubles tandem of Kennedy Graettinger and Brynn Merchant produced a top-eighth finish at the state tournament this week as the individual and doubles season came to a climax.
Graettinger and Merchant lost to Central DeWitt’s Greenley Grell and Clara LeConte in two sets (6-4, 7-5) to open the tournament before the Tigers scored a two-set win over Shenandoah’s Jaylan Gray Lyla Mather (6-3, 6-3) on the consolation side. Graettinger and Merchant then scored another two-set win in the consolation quarterfinals, dropping Wahlert’s Annie Elbert and Claire King, 6-4, 6-3.
In the consolation semifinals, Spencer’s duo lost to Pella’s Reagan DeJong and Addison VanWyk before Graettinger and Merchant lost in the seventh place match to Fairfield’s Ria Ross and Sriya Yammanur,
