Authorities are investigating a Saturday night shooting incident in Newark’s West Ward after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the area, officials said.
According to police, the alert was triggered around 10 p.m. near the intersection of South 9th Street and 11th Avenue.
Responding officers arrived to find several shell casings on the ground but no victims at the scene.
A search of the surrounding neighborhood did not reveal anyone injured.
The suspect reportedly fled before police arrived and remains at large.
The motive for the shooting and the intended target have not yet been determined. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
