WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrested a man outside of a Northwest D.C. cathedral Sunday after multiple "suspicious" items were found in his tent.
According to police, shortly before 6:00 a.m., officers assigned to a detail for the Red Mass at Saint Matthew's Cathedral in the 1700 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NW, noticed a man inside a tent on the steps of the cathedral.
Police said an initial investigation found that the man had previously been banned from the premises, and when confronted by officers, he refused to leave.
Officers found vials of liquid and possible fireworks inside the tent, prompting an additional search from the MPD’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team and the Arson Task Force.
