JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A child was airlifted to a nearby hospital after a car accident that occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident involved three cars with one child injured. The child was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital but is in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

Both lanes of traffic were temporarily closed on I-55 near Highway 61.

The accident occurred near the location of an accident on I-55 that resulted in the death of three people on Sept. 28.
