Chargers' wide receiver Keenan Allen just etched his name into the NFL history books.

Allen, now in his 13th season in the NFL, hauled in his 1,000th career reception in the league as the Chargers and the Commanders squared off on Sunday. Hitting that milestone allowed Allen to become the fastest player in NFL history to reach 1,000 receptions, as he hit the milestone in 159 games as a pro. He dethrones previous record holder Marvin Harrison Sr., who achieved the feat in his 167th career game.

Allen reached the milestone on his second reception of the game against Washington, hauling in an otherwise unremarkable four-yard reception from quarterback Justin Herbert in the second quarter. Allen also becomes just the 16th player in league history to hit the 1,000 receptions mark, and he only trails behind Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce (1,019 receptions) in career receptions among active players.

Nearly all of Allen's receptions have come with the Chargers – he was drafted by the franchise in 2013 and has remained with them in all but one season, as he was traded to the Chicago Bears in 2024 and hauled in 70 receptions for 774 yards before signing a one-year deal to return to the organization this season after Mike Williams hung up his cleats in a surprise move near the start of training camp. His return has been hailed as a wise move by the Chargers, as he led the team with 24 receptions through four games entering Week 5.
