The death toll from the massive landslide that struck Darjeeling on Saturday night following heavy rainfall has climbed to 23, including seven children.

Several people are still missing, while many homes were destroyed as debris swept through multiple hillside settlements.

According to officials, road connectivity between Darjeeling, Sikkim, and the rest of the country has been completely cut off.

With the tourist season underway, more than 2,000 tourists are stranded across Darjeeling and Sikkim. Rescue operations are underway but are being hampered by persistent rain and road blockages.
