AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he authorizes President Donald Trump to deploy 400 members of the Texas National Guard to Illinois, Oregon and other states to "ensure safety for federal officials."

Abbott’s post is a response to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker's social media post about the President's decision. He called on Abbott to withdraw support for the decision and refuse coordination.

"There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation," Pritzker said.

Abbott stood by his decision, saying the Texas troops "defend our country with pride."
