VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) -- The largest annual community fundraiser for Parkinson's Resources of Oregon took place Sunday with a walk at Clark College in Vancouver.

The walk, put on by Sole Support for Parkinson's, brought dozens of people out into the sunshine for the fundraiser.

The rate of people with Parkinson's is 1-in-1000, with an increased chance of getting it the older they get.

"Over the age of 60, it's about 1%," said Dr. Joseph Quinn, a professor of neurology. "So you see it goes up quite a bit once you go over 60 and at the age of 80 (it's) something like 3.5% of the population. It's the second most common of the neurodegenerative diseases with Alzheimer's being the most common."

To date, Sole Support for Parkinson's has raised more than $30,000 for Parkinson's resources.
