ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – Classes are canceled Monday at South Carolina State University following a weekend shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Authorities said the shooting happened near the Hugine Suites student residential complex during the university’s annual homecoming celebration on Saturday, hours after a football game.

The university said two people were shot; a female guest on campus died from injuries she sustained in the shooting, and an injured male campus guest was taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

A third guest on campus was injured while running from the scene of the first shooting, according to public safety officials.
