CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Waypoint Services is turning to the community to help fund apartment construction in Cedar Rapids for people struggling with homelessness.

These 12 apartments will be built into Waypoint’s Campus, across the street from Greene Square Park. As many as 33 people could be housed there.

Waypoint leadership hopes these apartments will give people a better platform to get back on their feet and regain their independence.

“Living in a shelter is really hard,” Jaye Kennedy, CEO of Waypoint, said. “When it comes to solving the homelessness issue, it’s not a solution, it’s a Band-Aid.”

While living on-site, residents will be connected with more than 20 support organizations

“Some people that are are homeless never ever thought they’d be in that situation,” Kennedy sa
