BROOKLYN, Ohio -- Construction begins today (Oct. 6) on James P. Brock Playground, which will be closed until a spring re-opening.

“This came directly out of the master plan,” Brooklyn Mayor Ron Van Kirk said.

“We’re just taking that next step to upgrade the equipment -- which should be installed by the end of the year -- and do some sprucing up as well.”

The cost to renovate the pocket park located at the corner of Vandalia Avenue and Ridge Road is $500,000 with the city earmarking a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant towards the project.

“We’re also redoing the fencing, keeping the poles and replacing the fencing material with a new windscreen installed on two of the four sides of the park,” he said.

“That’ll take place next spring.”
