CHRISTIAN McCaffrey has received eye-opening punishment from the NFL for an attempted tackle in a controversial ruling decision.

The San Francisco 49ers ' star running back's punishment came from a play during his team's Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars .

Over the weekend, McCaffrey was fined $23,186 for the use of his helmet during his attempted tackle of Jaguars' Devin Lloyd.

The three-time First-Team All-Pro wasn't able to tackle Lloyd after a Brock Purdy interception.

McCaffrey launched his helmet before making contact with Lloyd, who recorded two interceptions in Jacksonville's 26-21 win.

During the play, McCaffrey, who was an offensive player, became a defender after the change of possession, which led to his fine.
