COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 22-year veteran of the Richland County Sheriff's Department has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) over the October 4 weekend.

Christopher Duke, 45, was arrested around 7 p.m. Saturday, October 4, following a South Carolina Highway Patrol initiated traffic stop for speeding. Duke was off duty and in his personal vehicle.

RCSD immediately suspended Duke without pay and he is no longer employed with the sheriff's department. His most recent assignment was as the Major of the Uniform Patrol Division.

Duke was booked into Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
