TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tanque Verde residents are sounding the alarm about a proposed new Circle K in their neighborhood.

At a community meeting Saturday morning, neighbors shared their concerns with Circle K representatives about the gas station’s underground fuel tank, and its planned proximity to a nearby wash.

Their concerns stem from an accident in Chino Valley, Arizona in January of 2024, during which a gas leak went unchecked at a Circle K for more than 18 days, resulting in nearly 90,000 gallons of gasoline leaking into the ground.

JoAnn Trego, a Tanque Verde resident who helped organized the event, said she was astounded after hearing about the incident.

“How in the world did 86,000 gallons leak before anyone knew anything about it?” she wondered.
