FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Retired Marine fighter pilot and former congressional candidate Amy McGrath has officially announced her campaign for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Mitch McConnell.
McGrath, who previously challenged McConnell in 2020, said in a statement that she believes Kentuckians deserve “decency and courage” in their representation, and pledged to be a senator who listens and stands up for working families.
A retired lieutenant colonel, McGrath served more than 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, flying combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. She said her military service gives her a unique perspective on leadership, discipline, and public service.
McConnell, who announced earlier this year that he would step down from his leadership role and not s
