A brave Scots-born volunteer security guard has told how he came face-to-face with the man who attacked worshippers at a Manchester synagogue. ‌

Ivor Rosenberg, 78, who went to Queens Park Secondary School in Glasgow , was helping protect Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue ahead of Yom Kippur prayers on Thursday morning when he confronted the suspect – later named by police as Jihad Al-Shamie, 35. ‌

Ivor said another volunteer had warned him about a “suspicious-looking man” lurking near the building. ‌

He told Sky News that when he looked, he saw the man "gazing into the synagogue". He recalled: "There was a fence between us and I said, ‘What are you doing?’ and he said, ‘I’m looking for my car.’ He appeared to be up to no good, so we told him to leave.
