BYRON, Ga. — The Byron Police Department says 12 people were arrested after a child sex abuse sting, according to a press release from the agency.

They say the two day operation, between Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, targeted child predators.

The police department created accounts on multiple internet platforms posing as children and then arrested those trying to commit sex acts with them, according to the press release.

During the sting, they arrested multiple people mainly from Houston County and Macon-Bibb, but one of the arrested were from Spartanburg, S.C.

Those arrested include:

Dennis Jacques, 65, of Lizella

Antwan Devereux, 32, of Macon

Avery Simmons, 32, of Rincon

Shedrick Smith, 33, of Warner Robins

Mikel Williams, 44, of Warner Robins

Timothy Newman, 49, of Milledgeville
