CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg has endorsed the one percent sales tax referendum for public transportation.
The referendum is on the ballot for voters in November. If voted for, there will be a one percent sales tax increase from 7.25% to 8.25%. The tax will pay for a 30-year transit plan to expand the light rail to more parts of the city, add rapid bus lines for fester service, roadway upgrades and invest in bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
Charlotte city council member and BPC member James Mitchell said the push for transportation aligns with the values of the caucus and needs of the community.
