Pa. (WETM) -- Several counties in Pennsylvania have been placed under a drought watch due to dry conditions throughout the state.
On Monday, Oct. 6, the Pennsylvania Drought Task Force announced that 25 counties are now being monitored for dry conditions after being declared in watch status. The announcement has been made to alert residents and also encourage them to be conservative with their water use.
“Pennsylvania received very little rain over the summer. We want residents to be aware of these dry conditions and be mindful of their water use,” said Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Jessica Shirley. “DEP makes drought declarations based on long-term trends. A severe thunderstorm or a rainy week may not lift the drought status for a particular area.”
