NORCROSS, Ga. — A deadly accident that shut down southbound Interstate 85 for about five hours on Sunday morning has led to vehicular homicide charges against one of the drivers.

Three vehicles were involved, including a tanker truck that overturned, near Jimmy Carter Boulevard (Exit 99) in Norcross.

The driver of the first vehicle, Niamani Sade Defares, struck the rear of a motorcycle, causing both occupants to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Defares then sideswiped the tanker truck.

Both occupants of the motorcycle died at the scene.

Defares, who is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail, faces multiple charges, including two counts of Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, DUI and Driving While Suspended.
