NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating what may have been a hoax call, possibly involving a swatting incident, at Georgia State University's Newton County campus on Monday.

According to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of an active shooter and are currently in the area. However, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said no threat has been found yet, adding that this may have been a swatting call, which is a hoax.

GSU's Perimeter College Newton Campus is located on Cedar Lane, outside of Covington.

The sheriff's office also made a social media post about this incident to keep the public informed on the situation.
