RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A former Raleigh police officer could spend more than seven years in prison if convicted of dropping a DWI investigation in exchange for sexual favors.
Tremale Cogdell, 28, faced a judge on Monday at the Wake County Justice Center. He didn't say anything to reporters on the way out, but the victim's attorney, W. Stacy Miller, didn't mince any words.
"A young woman taken advantage of by somebody who’s a predator with a badge — there’s not much more scary than that," Miller said.
Prosecutors say Cogdell responded to a single car crash on Sept. 12 involving a woman suspected of driving while impaired. Instead of completing the DWI investigation, he allegedly drove the woman to his apartment, while still on duty, where the sexual acts took place.
