Pet Valu in Fonthill was not open for business early Sunday morning but that didn’t stop one unexpected — and frantic — visitor from making a dramatic entrance.

With glass shattered and hooves clattering, a deer burst through the window of the store, located at the Fonthill Shopping Centre on Regional Road 20. The animal, bleeding and disoriented, sparked a rescue and an unusual start to the work day for store staff.

“(The deer did) crash through our storefront window here and did a little bit of a run around in the store and did some damage,” said store manager Kathy Dixon.

“He was bleeding … so everywhere he was running through the store, he had left his trademark with his blood, shall we say, in his panic. He ended up going into one of the corners where he remained until someone coul
