A Region retail institution is closing its doors just short of a century in business.
The family-owned DeYoung Interiors in St. John is closing after 97 years due to its owner's retirement.
The furniture, home furnishings and home decor store is now running a liquidation sale. It's selling the building at 8365 Wicker Ave. across from Lake Central High School.
“It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to retire and close the business that has been at the center of four generations and served so many folks for nearly 100 years,” John DeYoung said. “I will deeply miss serving this community and am forever grateful for the loyal customers and friends who have supported us.”
Nick and Cora DeYoung started the businesses as DeYoung Furniture and Funeral Home in South Holland in 1928. It lon
