Jewel-Osco has agreed to pay $1.95 million to resolve a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigation.
The EEOC charged that Jewel-Osco denied reasonable accommodations to a group of employees based on their various disabilities. The Itasca-based supermarket chain has locations in Chesterton, Crown Point, Dyer and Munster, as well as around Chicago and its suburbs, It's also building a new grocery store in the former Kmart in St. John.
Jewel-Osco, a subsidiary of Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons, entered into a voluntary agreement to pay the $1.95 million in monetary relief to the affected employees. The grocery chain , which has 189 locations around Chicagoland and neighboring states, also agreed to revise its policies and offer state-of-the-art disability training.
