PHOENIX — A man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot during an altercation on Monday afternoon in Phoenix.

Officers responded to reports of a fight near 16th Street and Baseline Road just after 1 p.m., according to Phoenix police.

At the scene, officers spoke with a man who said he had shot a man who had assaulted him. Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound behind a business, police said.

The Phoenix Fire Department took the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are now investigating. No further information has been released.
