JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Jerome County Courthouse’s weapons ban was lifted less than a week after being imposed.
The Jerome County Board of County Commissioners originally planned for the weapon ban in the Jerome County Courthouse to start on Oct. 1. However, the Board repealed the ban, according to a press release. Their decision followed further review, which found Idaho’s laws limit the county’s authority regarding firearms.
The county states that it will work with the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office to prioritize safety and that the initial decision was made in good faith.
Other decisions previously made remain in effect, including the requirement for a single public entrance and screening as well as extra deputies patrolling the building.
