BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A new partnership is helping to keep local domestic violence survivors moving.

It’s the first semester for Baton Rouge Community College’s automotive training program’s Safe Wheels Alliance. Chancellor Willie Smith is teaming up with the Governor’s Office of Women’s Policy and the IRIS Domestic Violence Center to create this first-of-its-kind initiative, allowing students in training to work on cars of domestic violence survivors for free.

“Changing tires, changing oil, if there’s a bulb out in your taillights, those sorts of things, these students will be instrumental in helping those survivors with general maintenance on the cars,” explained Smith.
