COVINGTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A woman is dead after a shooting that happened in Rockdale County Monday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were responding to a shooting on Salem Road around 8 a.m. when they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

The sheriff’s office did not release a description of the suspect but did say they are on the run.

The sheriff’s office believes the shooting may be domestic in nature, saying that there is “no known threat to the public.”

The identity of the woman killed has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
