COVINGTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Reports of an active shooter at the Georgia State University campus in Covington were false, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the campus, also known as the Perimeter College Newton Campus, and no threat was found.

The sheriff’s office said it was a swatting call.

A GSU official said police “immediately responded to the call and have not found anything suspicious.” They said buildings 1 and 2 were searched and cleared.
