WILLIAMSBURG — Two girls, ages 12 and 13, died Saturday, Oct. 4 in a pre-dawn subway surfing incident on the J train in Williamsburg, Gothamist and the Daily News report. According to an NYPD spokesperson, at around 3 a.m., after the emergency brake of a J train pulling into the Marcy Avenue subway station was activated, officers responding to a 911 call found the pair unconscious and unresponsive on top of the train, which had just crossed the Williamsburg Bridge. Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Police believe that the girls hit their heads on a low-hanging beam from the bridge. The incident partially disrupted interborough J service for several hours.
