MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The family of the remaining Abundant Life Christian School student hospitalized following a deadly school shooting is asking for the community’s help as he continues his recovery.

Samuel (Samy) Garduno-Martinez has been hospitalized at American Family Children’s Hospital since the Dec. 16, 2024, shooting .

Samy suffered severe injuries after being shot multiple times.

After emergency surgery to remove swelling in his brain and care for organ damage, Samy fell into a coma.

After three days, and what his family described as a miracle, Samy opened his eyes and started slowly recovering.

While Samy is making slow progress, the next step in his recovery is 24-hour care at a Chicago-area care facility.
