CHESTERTON — A 23-year-old Michigan City man was arrested Monday just hours after he allegedly robbed a Chesterton business at knifepoint.
Chesterton Police said the robbery occurred shortly before 12 p.m. in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue. Officers obtained a description and the license plate of the suspect's vehicle and then used license plate reader (LPR) cameras to track its movements into LaPorte County.
The vehicle was stopped by Michigan City Police around 2 p.m. at Michigan Boulevard and 10th Street, and the driver was taken in for questioning, police said.
The driver was later arrested on a preliminary charge of armed robbery, a level 3 felony, and deposited in the Porter County Jail. His name isn't being released pending the filing of formal charges.
