MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Monroe officials clarified state flight data released last month to announce that its airport was the second businest for general aviation in North Carolina.

City records show that there were 71,628 takeoffs and landings at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport (EQY) in 2024. In addition, there were more than 2,000 go-arounds and 2,100 overflights on the airfield during that time.

Of airports that serve only general aviation with no commercial or military components, Monroe ranks second in NC behind Johnston County Airport (KJNX).
