Rome, N.Y. - A semi-truck driver who died Friday morning in a rollover crash in Oneida County was identified by deputies on Monday.
Michael Lucas, 39, of Turin, was killed in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing, but deputies believe speed was a contributing factor, according to a news release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
The truck belonged to Real Deal Landscaping out of Cold Brook. It was a “dump-style trailer loaded with stone type material,” deputies said.
Around 8:45 a.m., the truck was going west on Route 49 when the driver lost control on an exit ramp to Martin Street in Rome, deputies said.
The truck drifted off the left side of the exit ramp before it collided with a guide rail in the area of a bridge that crosses a small creek.
The truck then rolled ov
