PHOENIX — The City of Phoenix, in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, will conduct a prescribed burn at the Tres Rios Wetlands on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The operation is subject to change based on weather conditions.

The prescribed burn will help reduce dense vegetation and restore vital riparian habitat while serving as a training exercise for Phoenix firefighters.

Fire managers said the burn is part of ongoing efforts to improve the health of the ecosystem and reduce hazardous fuels. Fire helps eliminate invasive plant species and provides nutrients to the soil, making it an essential management tool for the wetlands.
