Delta’s emergency room (ER) was forced to close for the fourth time this year, and now city councillor Dylan Kruger is calling on his council colleagues to declare a public health emergency.

The ER was shut down for more than 12 hours over the weekend.

Kruger calls the closure unacceptable.

“We have no urgent care centre in our community. We have virtually no walk-in clinics. We have a shortage of family doctors. It is a public health crisis,” he told 1130 NewsRadio.

Kruger says the health of the community is being put at risk because of the ER closures.

He explains that the limited availability of family doctors and the lack of an urgent care centre in Delta make the situation even worse.
