FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — After more than four decades on the waterfront, a Fernandina Beach staple, Brett's Waterway Café, has officially closed.
Community members said it's known for its views, seafood, and family-like atmosphere, marking the end of an era for many in the community.
“It’s a part of what Fernandina is,” said lifelong resident Marian Phillips.
Barbie Thrift says she came to Brett’s every Friday night, a tradition she’s kept for years. Even her dog was welcomed with water outside the restaurant.
“Everyone just made you feel like family,” Thrift said. “Some of the people have been here their whole life working for them. It says a lot about how long their employees stayed.”
The City of Fernandina Beach owns the property, but the restaurant’s operators — Center Street Rest
