KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - A Kinston city council candidate commented today on issues she has with an election protest filed against her last month. The protest led to her arrest on a perjury charge.

“They had a problem when I filed... why did they wait 2 months?”

That is one of the problems Quarla Blackwell says she has with Lenoir County GOP Chair Sean Keenan’s election protest filed against her . She says the protest is invalid because Keenan filed it before the election has taken place.

Keenan says he filed the protest because he believes Blackwell is unqualified to serve.

“She is still on probation,” he explained. “She is currently on unsupervised probation, but that is still probation.”
