EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Authorities are investigating a massive fire at the Cross Lake Apartments that displaced more than two dozen people.

The fire erupted early Sunday morning, leading to numerous emergency calls.

"It looks like the top of... on the corner of Biltmore Way," said a caller to dispatch.

The fire caused a partial roof collapse and initially displaced 26 people.

The Red Cross assisted those 26 people affected by the fire.

"I was trying to think back to the time we’ve had a multi-family fire like this here in Evansville where multiple people were displaced, and I can’t remember the last time that that’s happened," said Beth Sweeney, the executive director of the American Red Cross Southwest Indiana chapter.
