Ensemble Montréal leader Soraya Martinez Ferrada said her party has dropped a candidate who insulted elected officials in profanity-laden social media posts after spending days defending the decision to keep him on her team.

Martinez Ferrada said she has asked Alexandre Giasson, her party’s candidate in the Hochelaga district of the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve to end his campaign after receiving “new information concerning other behaviours.”

“Taking account of the character of these allegations, I have excluded Alexandre Giasson from the team, and I’ve asked him to immediately end his campaign,” she wrote in a post on X, offering no details on the nature of the allegations. Her party also declined to comment further in response to a request from The Gazette.
