MENTOR, Ohio — Alexis Higham and her 4-year-old daughter Carina are traumatized.

"I said, 'We're going to die. We're going to die right here,'" Higham recalled. "I'm damaged for her because she has to live with that for the rest of her life."

Over the weekend, the two were walking on a trail to Veterans Park in Mentor, Ohio, when Higham says a pit bull, roaming the area by itself, latched onto Carina's face.

"I watched the dog take her face off," Higham said. "So I picked her up and I stuck her on top of my head — literally. Like, her whole body was up and the dog had this hand (of mine on my left), and I'm screaming, 'Help! Help! Somebody help us!'"

Terrified and in shock, Higham dragged the dog to a nearby street, where she says it finally let go of her hand and folks who live nearby
