PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - There’s a growing need for farmers’ mental health resources, and local officials want Illinois farmers to know there is help out there.

The Family Farm Resource Initiative Helpline is a resource that serves several farm families in Illinois. It averages a handful of calls per month for farmers who are dealing with a crisis or require someone to talk to.

Charlie Hensley with the Peoria County Farm Bureau said harvest season can be one of the primary stressors to a farmer’s mental health.

“The Illinois Farm Bureau and all the county farm bureaus in Illinois are really wanting to be there for all farmers, so I would say if you have something you’re struggling with, reach out to somebody,” said Hensley.
