NORFOLK, Va. — Across the nation, thousands of active-duty service members are working without pay, as the government shutdown drags into Day 6 on Monday.
While visiting Naval Station Norfolk on Sunday, President Trump told sailors "not to worry" about getting their money.
"I want you to know that despite the current Democrat-induced shutdown, we will get our service members every last penny," said President Trump. "It's all coming, it's coming."
Under the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act, all federal and essential worker personnel will receive back pay once a government shutdown is lifted. This includes military service members, but does not include government contract workers.
Representative Jen Kiggans, who was present during President Trump's address, said it was "heartening"
