SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Hispanic leaders and trailblazers across Illinois were honored by Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza Monday.

Mendoza celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month during a ceremony at the Illinois Office of Comptroller in Springfield.

This year's honorees included Isaac Z úñiga, vice president of academic and student success at Richland Community College, Peoria Chief of Police Eric Echevarria and Village of Fairmont City employee Stephanie Pacheco.

Hispanic Heritage Month is held every year between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
