ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Students at Rogers Heritage High School are taking their classroom into the community to tackle food insecurity head-on by becoming the first Northwest Arkansas high school to open its own food bank and pantry.

To make this happen, the high school food safety classes program has partnered with the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

"When I went to Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, they said that they would like to help families in the community with this idea of being a high school food bank," said program director Wayne Levering

Levering says when he first pitched this idea to the dozens of students he teaches in the food safety classes, they were all in.
