FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/FOX24) — The black bear suspected in the fatal Newton County attack is being transported to Little Rock to undergo a necropsy.
After being euthanized by personnel of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, assisted by Newton County Sheriff's Office, the bear is set to undergo an evaluation by the Department of Agriculture.
A necropsy is the same process as an autopsy, just performed on animals. It's a process to help examiners find more information on the death of an animal, or in this case,e to help identify why the bear attacked.
Black bear program coordinator with AGFC, Spencer Daniels, said they'll be able to confirm if the bear was in fact the same one involved in the attack.
