Authorities in South Australia are intensifying their search efforts for four-year-old Gus, who went missing in the mid-north region. The South Australia Police are utilizing drone technology in hopes of uncovering new leads regarding his disappearance. Acting Commissioner Linda Williams announced that drone searches were conducted over the weekend, specifically on Friday and Saturday nights.

Gus was last seen playing in the sand at his family's remote homestead near Yunta around 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. Since then, he has not been located. The search efforts were prompted by the discovery of a boot print, which led to a significant search of a nearby dam on Monday. However, Williams noted that the boot print was later determined not to be connected to Gus.

"On Friday and Saturday night, a contingent of police also conducted a significant aerial search of the property using a special drone with infrared capabilities," Williams stated. This drone technology is the same as that used in the search for the remains of alleged murder victim Julian Story in Port Lincoln.

The results from the drone analysis are still pending, as the technology involved is complex. Williams expressed hope that the findings would be available in the coming weeks.

Despite the ongoing search efforts, police have indicated that they may scale back their operations. The situation remains critical as the community continues to seek answers in the case of Gus's disappearance.
